Best Practice project

Background

Naa Lanferman

The IVC Best Practice project was established in 2005 in order to offer a complete service to all volunteer-involving organisations registered with us. Islington Volunteer Centre currently has nearly 300 registered local organisations all of whom can benefit from the project along with all the volunteers that support them.

The purpose of the project is to ensure that volunteer-using organisations that are registered with the Islington Volunteer Centre are supporting, valuing and developing their volunteers to their full potential.

Outreach

The project involves outreach delivery of practical help and advice to staff in their own premises on issues relating to volunteer management, such as writing volunteer policies and agreements, supervision and support of volunteers, retention, risk management, health and safety issues, etc.

Training

The project will be organising training sessions to reinforce "Best practice" within volunteer-using organisations . The sessions will cover: models of volunteer involvement, volunteering policies, recruitment and retention, legal and practical issues, working with disabled volunteers, working with ex-offenders and substance abusers, working with BME, refugee and asylum-seeker volunteers, working with young people as volunteers.

The project is in its first year and will be proactive in providing services to help organisations in supporting and valuing volunteers.

Confidential interviewing space is available if required.
