Metamorphoses
Background
After a successful pilot year and having secured funding for a further three years, the Metamorphoses project is now firmly established. The project's aim is social inclusion, focusing on supporting ex-offenders and people with a history of substance misuse into volunteering.
Organisations
In recent months we have had new organisations register, offering many volunteering opportunities including gardening, decorating, administration and so forth. We have also worked hard with IVC's existing organisations, challenging pre-conceptions to our client group, thus enabling a greater selection of volunteer opportunities.
Activities
Volunteering is the first step for many of our clients toward becoming fully engaged in society. Metamorphoses matches skills and interests to appropriate volunteering opportunities, helping clients gain invaluable skills, confidence and work references which often act as a gateway into training and employment. Re-offending and relapse rates are dramatically reduced when these clients are involved in volunteering, training or work.
Metamorphoses participates in regular outreach work at detox centres, hostels, HMP Holloway and the 'First Night Centre' at HMP Wormwood Scrubs with plans to expand the number of prisons in the near future. We have also made excellent links with drug and alcohol treatment agencies.
Metamorphoses is also holding a series of training workshops covering applications forms, CVs, interview techniques, disclosures and spent convictions.
Confidential interviewing space is available if required.
