Move Out Move On project

The Move Out Move On (Volunteering) project is a joint venture between Volunteer Centre Islington and Women in Prison. It provides advice and support to women who have been in prison and are thinking about volunteering.

Working alongside education and employment advisors at Women in Prison we aim to provide hope and improve the life chances of women through building confidence, developing skills and providing emotional and practical support.

What we do:

Client work including:

  • » Non-judgemental and confidential interview and assessment of needs.
  • » Sourcing and assessing suitable volunteer placements.
  • » Support to apply for volunteer placements through CV writing, application form filling, interview skills and confidence building, and support around Disclosure.
  • » Continued support through volunteer placement as needed.

Outreach:

  • » General talks about volunteering to support staff and managers.
  • » Workshops and general talks for women who are or have been in prison, covering volunteer rights, the benefits of volunteering, concerns and worries, disclosure, interview skills.
  • » One to one support with women in prison, treatment centres and other partner agencies such as hostels.
